Feature of the Week: Nicole Artz, Perfect 10!

After a stunning performance in her final first home meet of the year, Nicole Artz proved to us that she's up to some good when she pulled off a perfect 10.0 in yesterday's meet against Illinois. The first meet this year for the big UM in the Crisler Center, and they sure proved to us what they're really worth. Take a look at our standout routine from the meet, obviously, Nicole Artz's floor:

Stunning. Nicole is now tied for the 2nd place ranking on her best event and we can't wait to see what she has in store for next week's meet against Nebraska which is once again, a home meet. Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more!! :)

My Top Three Favorite Moments from 2016

With a new year in, and the old year out, it's time to reflect on last year's experiences and look forward to the ones to come in the new year. And to celebrate the new year, we're joining you in reflecting upon last year's occurrences. So to do our part, we are sharing with you, our three favorite moments in the gymnastics world from 2016. Counting down from three, in the spirit of the new year (just like they count down from three to see the ball drop) we begin with...

3. Diversity on the Podium

Often it is teams from the big four that we see standing on the podium in the end. However, this Olympics we had a wide variety of teams on the medal stand in the end. Giulia Steingruber won Switzerland a bronze on the vault. Amy Tinkler from Great Britain won a bronze on floor. Sophie Schemer won a bronze on uneven bars. Other countries were contending in the finals, mixing it up also,  Hong Un Jong of North Korea was in the vault final, as well as Dipa Karmakar of India, Oksana Chusovitina of Uzbekistan, and Shallon Olsen of Canada.

2. Brazil Impresses on Home Territory

With the Olympics being hosted in Brazil, the home team's performance was expected to be slightly better, however, not too much was expected from them. This all changed, after Diego Hypolito performed a nearly perfect floor routine enough to get him a silver medal. Moments later, Hypolito's teammate, Arthur Nory, executed a flawless routine enough to put him in the bronze medal position. Moments later they would realize that the final standings left them with Olympic medals. The moment was moving. Watch below:

 Watch Diego at 3:35
Watch Arthur at 13:37
Watch their reaction at 27:54 but also throughout

1. Aly and Simone Dominate All Around Final

Our favorite moment of this year was when Aly made a comeback for her 2012 Olympic experience and Simone finally got the medal in the all around she deserved. It was such an amazing moment for them and for us to witness.

Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed a joyous and celebratory new year! Stay tuned for more as the NCAA season begins this weekend!! :)

Happy Holidays!! :)

Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you enjoy a nice holiday with family and friends! Don't forget to stay warm!! Thank you for your support this holiday season!! My gift to you is another throwback article, so here is an article I wrote over a year ago. Enjoy the cringe...

In Glasgow the representatives for team USA will be:

Simone Biles
Gabby Douglas
Brenna Dowell
Madison Kocian
Maggie Nichols
Aly Raisman
MyKayla Skinner

Six of these athletes will be competing, one will be a traveling reserve. Non-traveling alternates are Bailie Key and Alyssa Baumann.

I am pretty happy with the representatives chosen. They are all very talented gymnasts, and I'm expecting to see very high scores from these girls.

- fan #1

I'm happy with the men's team. I hope they can medal even without Sam. Paul should help on high bar.

- fan #2

YAY! Brenna finally made the team!!!!! 😃 I've been waiting for this....

- fan #3

I wish Alyssa could be on the team with Madison. However, I'm sure the US can still do great even without Alyssa's beam work. Mykayla Skinner should also help on vault and floor. This is a great team that I'm sure will do great. I hope all of them can make some sort of individual finals. Good luck to them all!

- fan #4

All the athletes (men and women) work hard and are fantastic athletes.!

-fan #5

Thanks to all the fans who commented their ideas! :).

If you would like to have your thoughts featured in the next "Fan's Thoughts" please comment below your ideas on the announcement of the worlds team. :)

Thank you all for reading and enjoy a nice rest of the holiday season with your family!! :)

Routine of the Week: Epke Zonerland 2012 High Bar

In this week's edition of the routine of the week, we are featuring Epke Wonderland's extreme high bar routine from the 2012 Olympic high bar final. Full of huge release combos (plenty of kovacs') and difficult connections, Epke's routine in the final started at nearly an 18.0. His execution was also just good enough to win him the gold medal by just over a tenth. Unfortunately, changes to the code did not benefit Epke in this recent quad and he was not even able to make it onto the podium in this year's Olympic games, placing seventh. Hopefully, next quad he can improve and hence, make it into the Olympic high bar final and successfully finish in the Tokyo Olympics, four years from now. Without further ado, enjoy Epke's high bar routine below (from the 2012 Olympic high bar final):

Via Yury Veshkin youtube channel.

Amazing! Am I right? He scored a 16.533 out of a 17.9. Be sure to comment down below suggestions for the next edition of routine of the week! Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more! :)

10 Routines I'm Thankful for in 2016

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on what you're thankful for and what is special in your life. For many of you reading this blog, I'm sure gymnastics fits somewhere in the discussion at the Thanksgiving dinner table. Hence, in the spirit of the season, inspired by flogymnastics I present to you, 10 routines that I'm thankful for from 2016...

10. Trinity Thomas' Floor

Junior international elite and USA national team member, Trinity Thomas has a floor routine full of high fly high flying passes and leaps. One that really gave us a wow and a giggle was her routine from P&G Championships this year. Take a look below:

VIA USA GYMNASTICS

9. Oleg Vernaiev's Parallel Bars

One routine that I don't allow myself to miss while watching a competition is, Oleg Vernaiev's p bars. Full of difficult releases and consistent stuck landings it is not one to miss. Check it out:

VIA OLYMPIC YOUTUBE

8. Paul Ruggeri's High Bar

Paul Ruggeri proved just how outstanding he is on high bar throughout this year. One of his most impressive routines was on the final day of the P&G Championships where her broke the 16 mark. Here it is:

VIA USA GYMNASTICS

7. Aly Raisman's Floor

Aly Raisman has always been an outstanding performer on floor but my all time favorite for her routines was the one she performed in the Olympic all around final to win silver. It was simply perfect...

6. Ragan Smith's Floor

Continuing on the thought of floor, we must mention Ragan Smith's adorable routine to The Addam's Family. Watch below:

5. Danell Leyva Vault

Daniel Leyva came back from a leg injury to perform a beautiful vault at the 2016 Olympic Trials. It was amazing and he stuck the landing and everything. However, the most amazing part was his dad's reaction... you have to admit it!

*THE VIDEO COULD NOT BE DOWNLOADED ONTO THE POST BUT IT CAN BE FOUND here.

4.  Sophina Dejesus' Floor

Sophina Dejusus' performed a college floor routine that put us all on our feet this year. I don't think anything else is needed to say, just take a look...

3. Laurie Hernandez's Floor

Laurie Hernandez performed a spunky routine on floor this year full of amazing dance and tumbling. Her dance was so good that it was even enough to get her onto Dancing with the Stars. Check it out below:

VIA TEAM USA YOUTUBE

2.  Igor Radivlov Vault

Igor Radivlov performed an extremely difficult vault at this year's Olympics! The four rotations in the video should explain itself...

1. Simone Biles' Floor

We just thought Simone Biles was too good to leave off the list, so, her incredible, high flying, floor routine is definitely our number one pick for this year's routine that we're most thankful for. Our personal favorite was where she won the Olympic all around final, ending on floor. It was a story telling, picture perfect moment (she scored a 15.933)! It even put her to tears (happy tears)! Check it out here:
